Singapore's Chinatown is an ethnic neighbourhood featuring distinctly Chinese cultural elements and a historically concentrated ethnic Chinese population. Chinatown is located within the larger district of Outram.
As the largest ethnic group in Singapore is Chinese, Chinatown is considerably less of an enclave than it once was. (Note: The name Chinatown （唐人街） is usually used by non-Chinese Singaporeans whereas Chinese Singaporeans usually use the term Niu Che Shui （牛车水） as the term Chinatown （唐人街） usually refers to enclaves of Chinese people in regions where Chinese people are the minority ethnic group.) However, the district does retain significant historical and cultural significance. Large sections of it have been declared national heritage sites officially designated for conservation by the Urban Redevelopment Authority.
Chinese New Year
Chinese New Year is the most important of the traditional Chinese holidays. In China, it is known as "Spring Festival," the literal translation of the Chinese name 春節 (Pinyin: Chūn Jié), since the spring season in Chinese calendar starts with lichun, the first solar term in a Chinese calendar year. It marks the end of the winter season, analogous to the Western carnival. The festival begins on the first day of the first month (Chinese: 正月; pinyin: Zhēng Yuè) in the traditional Chinese calendar and ends with Lantern Festival which is on the 15th day. Chinese New Year's Eve, a day where Chinese families gather for their annual reunion dinner, is known as Chú Xī (除夕) or "Eve of the Passing Year." Because the Chinese calendar is lunisolar, the Chinese New Year is often referred to as the "Lunar New Year".

The quality of graffiti in Detroit is simply fantastic. This was behind a little store off of Michigan Avenue in Corktown. Not really even out in the open...sort of a warm up for somebody.
Who amongst us hasn't thought of themselves as Robocop holding a cowboy boot and wonder who's their doggie? Really speaks to the average joe.

I often see this little doggie in the window when I'm out walking in
Old Town Monrovia. He loves to watch what's happening down below and
I love seeing his cute face up there looking down. Looks as if he's
shedding his coat something fierce.

harvesting the worm castings: there are a couple ways to separate the worms from the castings - i made piles of worms+compost and put them in the sun. the worms will congregate at the center and you can easily harvest the castings to use for plants!

This was taken a few nights ago in New York City, the view from the hotel was incredible and I had the thought that this year was so full of moments that I wanted to collect like stars to have over me and look at whenever I wanted.
I'm very happy to announce that I'm one of the judges for Flickr's 12 Days contest! You can enter your photos to win an amazing prize!

Man learns through experience, and the spiritual path is full of different kinds of experiences. He will encounter many difficulties and obstacles, and they are the very experiences he needs to encourage and complete the cleansing process.

I've never been to a place where the line to get out was longer than to get in.
Great Sandwich...so much waste. They should have a ladies cut.

Vintage Salvation Army uniform, converted to monochrome for a more 'sixties' look - actually the skirt doesn't quite match the jacket, and I'm too lazy to PhotoShop :)
I do love the older uniform, even though it's less comfortable than the current one!

Because Thanksgiving was late this year the Salvation Army lost 5 days of giving=$22million dollars. Give a little more in the bucket this year.

Turkey colors are really quite amazing. The different shapes and sizes of their feathers are too. These were some of the critters at tractor guy's house. I wasn't sure if I was going to humiliate myself and run screaming from these guys. When I was around 30 I was terrorized by a huge Tom Turkey for months. When I'd come home he'd run over to my car and I couldn't get out because he'd be trying to attack me. The neighbors would have to distract him while I ran for my apartment. Didn't make it any better that those were my party days. You know, arrive home around 2 a.m. and wonder if the evil turkey was lurking between me and my door. When he found out which apartment I was in, well things just got worse. It's pretty funny now but at the time, I wanted to shoot that turkey.
